I’m really surprised they killed the Fiesta up here in Canada....small cars have historically done MUCH better up here than in the US. That’s why Nissan’s Micra is so popular despite the fact they don’t sell it in the US.

Well at least Ford got that right... It seems like there are more FiSTs around here (Vermont) than plain Fiestas. I know of 7 locally (not including mine) , in a total population of less than 10 , 000. Vermont is practically crawling with the little buggers. As far as performance vehicles go the only other things that come close are Corvettes (including vintage ones) and maybe Golf GTis.

To make it saleable in Canada, Ford would of had to federalise it for the whole of North America, so to sell it in Canada (which would be half or slightly more of present day sales) and not sell it in America would be madness for Ford.
if however Canada signed up to the European NCAP system and out of the North American one it would allow pretty much all the vehicles the world gets open to Canada, but it would hurt any trade agreement, especially vehicle manufacturing, etc...

To be fair, the way things are going over here , trade agreements are nothing but a wisp of smoke on the wind.

Holy shit- those deals on new focus sts. I should get one now instead of waiting- I can afford those payments.

True, but Nissan must’ve federalized the Micra then and they sell plenty of them up here in Canada, but not in the US at all? Must be financially worth it or they wouldn’t bother...?
I would LOVE us to take the EuroNCAP system...far more awesome cars we could then import or sell here for us to choose from! :)

Small cars do better up there by percentage, but not by total sales numbers because vehicle sales in Canada overall are so much lower than in the US. For example, last year Ford, Toyota, and Chevy each individually sold more cars in the U.S. than all manufacturers combined in Canada.

Only if by Focus STs you actually want Fiesta STs and in the U.K.

Really good point on the Micra.
How did Canada get it?

True, but it still must be worth it for us to get Canada-only models you guys don’t get...?

I don’t know, as far as I know Nissan just decided to sell it here because small cars have a
better market here than the US...?

That really is a curious one.
But they don't sell the new Micra over there!?

No, I mean I read the fp article. I can get a 2018 focus st for 6 large off msrp

Oh right. I’m with you now.
Selling off current stock I guess.
I don’t see many of the new Focus’ around here in the north of England, quite a few Fiestas, but no Focus’.
I find U.S. car companies work out. GM sells Opel/Vauxhall and imports an Opel liftback and estate cars (granted the estate is lifted but hey), while Ford doesn’t go, ‘hey, we could import the Focus and Mondeo/Fusion estate, we only have to crash test them for the U.S. regs and job done. NO, they kill off the Focus all together and don’t even think to offer even the Mondeo/Fusion as a liftback.
What the hell are they playing at?

Not yet - we usually get Euro cars of a generation a year or two after you do (depending how the company does the global roll-out).
But no, we don’t have the K14 Micra at the moment in Canada!

I don’t know anymore. Is it just me or do none of these companies have their shit together? Except maybe porsche.
